Understanding the Difference - Pneumatic vs. Cushion Forklift Tires
Pneumatic tires are the most common tire. You see them on everything from cars to bicycles and forklifts. If your surface is smooth, i.e., concrete, paved, hard-packed stone, or dirt, you’ll get a comfortable ride on a pneumatic tire. However, there are two types of pneumatic tires, and you want to be sure to choose the best one for your application.
Air-filled pneumatic tires are less costly because they are manufactured from reinforced rubber vs. the solid rubber of the solid pneumatic tire. As you can expect, the air-filled has a shorter lifespan than solid, and it can be prone to puncture if used in rocky terrain or around sharp objects. Solid pneumatic tires are the right choice where you need good traction on rough outdoor surfaces and around debris.
Cushion tires, also known as press-on tires, deliver a smooth ride for interior or light-duty outdoor use over smooth, non-abrasive terrain. The solid rubber tire is durable and helps nimble, small lift trucks maneuver in and out of tight spaces.
Talk to the Apex forklift tire experts about the best tires for your forklift needs. Also, ask about non-marking treatment to prevent tires from leaving marks and smudges on your facility’s floor.
