Counterbalance forklifts have a heavy counterweight that off-sets the load weight carried on the front forks. The electric battery provides a significant portion of the counterweight preventing the vehicle from tipping forward from the weight upfront.
Counterbalance forklifts are engineered to safely lift a wide range of load weights from 2500 - 10,000 lbs. depending on the vehicle. The greater the lift capacity, the larger the counterbalance unit must be.

The right attachment will help secure the load and prevent dangerous shifting. Be sure to factor weight unbalances into capacity calculations to prevent the forklift from tipping, losing control, and ensuring the safety of the load. Correctly positioning the load is critical for safe vehicle movement. The closer the front wheels are to the center of the load, the better, and the heaviest part of the cargo should be positioned closest to the mast.
